Campaign to raise awareness of the conditions of sale of red meat in butcher's shops and of the conditions of supply of poultry meat to the commercial catering trade.

 

As part of its 2010 action plan, the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA) has established a program to raise awareness of the conditions of sale of red meat in butcher shops and the conditions of supply of poultry meat to the commercial catering sector.

 

It should be remembered that a food product prepared in an establishment that meets the required standards may at any time become unhealthy if the conditions of its transport, storage and sale do not meet the required hygienic conditions. This type of product constitutes a major and permanent risk to the health of the consumer. It is therefore essential to control animal products and products of animal origin to ensure their conformity and to withdraw from the marketing circuit products deemed unfit for consumption.

It has therefore been decided to programme inspection campaigns, as follows

 

-Raising butchers' awareness of the conditions under which red meat is sold and displayed in butcher shops;

 

-Checking the supply of white meat to commercial catering establishments;

 

 

This ONSSA poultry meat initiative, which is part of the government's commitment to the poultry sector under the program contract signed between the government and the poultry industry association , is certainly aimed at increasing the quality of poultry products presented to the consumer.

So the poultry sector has entered into a dynamic of upgrading since 2007, which began firstly with the link of poultry production through the upgrading of poultry farms, which certainly and with the agreement of all professionals in the sector this upgrading has passed with success given the quality of investments since 2007 despite some derogations.

Now the time has come for the marketing and distribution component with this new note on the awareness and control campaign on the conditions of supply of white meat to commercial catering establishments; and these to increase the quality of our poultry products which will have an impact on the creation of more poultry slaughterhouses, as well as the stabilization of broiler chicken prices.
