Situation in the poultry industry 2016

The white meat sector is one of the most dynamic agricultural activities in Morocco. It creates more than 98,000 direct jobs and 225,000 indirect jobs. It also generates a turnover of 21 billion dirhams per year for an investment of 8.7 billion dirhams per year. Morocco produces 490,000 tonnes of white meat annually in addition to 3.9 billion eggs.

Given their relatively low price compared to other animal products, poultry products are consumed by the entire population and are a rich source of protein.

Broiler

Production of broiler meat was estimated at 44,760 tonnes in November 2015, an increase of 17% compared to the same period in 2014. Following the same trend, national production of broiler chicks was established in November 2015, at 35.5 million chicks, an increase of 22% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Regarding farm chicken selling prices, they recorded peaks of up to 16 dh / kg in September and October.

Meat turkey

Domestic production of turkey poults and imports fell 22% in November 2015 from the same period a year earlier to approximately 1.2 million turkey poults.

As for the quantity of turkey meat processed at slaughterhouses, it amounted to more than 6.3 million tonnes in November 2015, an increase of 74% compared to the same period in 2014.

Sales prices for turkey meat fluctuated less with an average of between 15 and 16 dh / kg during the months of June and November.

Consumer eggs

After the crisis in the consumer egg market in 2014 and the first half of 2015, a gradual improvement in prices was recorded from June. At the end of November 2015, the average selling price stabilized at 0.79 dh / unit.

Overall, the state of the poultry industry is considered satisfactory by representatives of the National Association of Poultry Meat Producers. The latter claim that Morocco is approaching self-sufficiency in the production of white meats and that it is even preparing to begin the export of poultry products, especially to Africa.
